TaxPro Max Nigeria: Where to File VAT Returns Today
Many Nigerian businesses still search for TaxPro Max when they need to file VAT, check a taxpayer record or manage tax payments. It was the familiar name used by many taxpayers for online tax activity.
For current services, start with the official NRS Self-Service Portal. The Nigeria Revenue Service now presents taxpayer services, including VAT and filing-related activity, through its current portal and official support channels.
What should you use instead of an old TaxPro Max link?
Use the official NRS website or the NRS Self-Service Portal. Do not rely on an old saved link, an advert or a message forwarded on WhatsApp. Tax systems, sign-in routes and service names can change, so the official site is the safest place to begin.
The portal is where taxpayers can manage relevant services, including taxpayer records, returns, payments and e-invoicing features where available to them.
Before you start a VAT return
Prepare the information first. A rushed return is more likely to contain an avoidable mistake.
You will normally need:
- your Tax ID and taxpayer profile details
- sales invoices for the period
- a breakdown of taxable, exempt and zero-rated supplies where applicable
- purchase records and supporting documents
- payment references and prior return information
- access to the email address and phone number linked to the taxpayer account
Keep the records in date order. If you issue invoices through InvoiceGenerator.ng, export or retain the invoice records needed for your accounts and tax file.
A simple VAT filing workflow
- Confirm the correct period. Check the return period shown in the portal before entering figures.
- Reconcile your invoices. Match your sales records to bank receipts, payment links and credit notes.
- Separate the VAT treatments. Do not group taxable, exempt and zero-rated supplies into one number without checking the rules.
- Enter the figures carefully. Use the portal’s instructions and retain a copy of what you submit.
- Pay through an approved route. Keep the payment reference and confirmation with the return record.
- Save the acknowledgement. Download or store the submission evidence in your business records.

VAT registration and taxpayer details
Registration, Tax ID retrieval and VAT filing are related but different tasks. Do not assume that finding a Tax ID means that every VAT obligation has been completed. Check the taxpayer profile and the tax obligation shown in the official system.
If a business name, address or Tax ID is wrong, resolve the underlying taxpayer record rather than editing the number on an invoice. Our Tax ID and VAT number guide explains the difference in plain language.
Common problems
I cannot sign in
Check that you are using the current official portal, the correct taxpayer account and the email or phone number associated with it. Use the NRS support route if the account details need to be recovered or corrected.
My invoices do not match the return total
Check for credit notes, cancelled invoices, deposits, partial payments and invoices issued at the end of the period. Correct the business records first, then complete the return.
A client asks for a TaxPro Max certificate
Ask what document they actually need. They may be asking for a Tax ID, a VAT registration record, a return acknowledgement or a Tax Clearance Certificate. These are not interchangeable.
Keep your filing records useful
Use clear invoice numbers, show VAT separately where it applies and save payment confirmations. The Nigeria VAT calculator can help you check a 7.5% calculation before an invoice is issued, but it does not determine whether a supply is taxable.
Frequently asked questions
Is TaxPro Max still the official place to start?
For current services, start from the official NRS website and use its Self-Service Portal. This avoids using an outdated route.
Can I file a VAT return from an invoice alone?
No. An invoice is one part of the record. You also need the wider sales, purchase and payment information required for the return.
Should I give my portal password to an accountant?
Do not casually share account credentials. Use an authorised access arrangement or agree a secure process with the accountant and the relevant tax authority.
